- A one-on-one conversation with Dr. Shanmukanathan where you can ask every question you’ve been sitting on, about the procedure, recovery, effectiveness, or anything else on your mind.
- A brief physical exam so Dr. Shanmukanathan can assess your anatomy and confirm there are no individual considerations to account for before proceeding.
- After the consultation, you can choose to go ahead with the procedure that same day or schedule it for a separate visit, whichever feels right for you.
- The procedure is priced at an all-inclusive $600, which covers your consultation, the vasectomy itself, and any necessary follow-up appointment. There are no facility fees or add-ons billed separately afterward.
- A $50 refundable deposit is required to secure your appointment. If you need to cancel or reschedule, we ask for at least 48 hours’ notice; your deposit is fully refunded as long as that notice is given. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the appointment will forfeit the deposit.

What happens during a consultation for a vasectomy?
During a vasectomy consultation, you will meet directly with Dr. Shan to discuss the permanent nature of the procedure, review your medical history, and answer any questions. She will also perform a brief, comfortable physical examination to confirm that your anatomy is suited for the gentle no-scalpel technique.
Should my partner/wife go to the vasectomy consultation?
While it is not strictly required, we highly encourage partners to attend. Because a vasectomy is a permanent family planning decision that affects both of you, having your partner there to ask questions, discuss alternatives, and understand the aftercare recovery can be highly supportive and reassuring.
How long does it take to get a vasectomy after the consultation?
At our clinic, you can actually have your vasectomy completed on the very same day, immediately following your consultation. Alternatively, if you prefer to think it over or need to plan around your schedule, you can book a standalone consultation and schedule the procedure for a later date within a few weeks.
How much does a vasectomy consultation cost?
At our Michigan clinic, a standalone consultation costs $50, which is fully applied toward your $600 procedure fee if you decide to move forward. For Ontario residents visiting our Windsor clinic, the consultation is completely covered under provincial health insurance (OHIP).
How painful is a vasectomy on a scale of 1-10?
Most men rate the discomfort around a 1 or 2 on a scale of 1 to 10. Because Dr. Shan uses a needle-free jet injector, the initial numbing spray feels like a quick pinch or a rubber band snap (about a 2). During the actual procedure, you should feel no sharp pain at all, only a mild, dull pressure (about a 1).
